Configure email forwarding addresses

Email forwarding lets invoices sent to your regular email get forwarded to Mod AI for processing automatically. Set up the rule once, invoices flow in.

How it works

Each entity gets a dedicated email address (for example, yourcompany-invoices@ingest.usemod.ai). Emails sent to it land in Mod AI, which classifies the attachments.

End-to-end:

  1. An invoice email arrives at your inbox (ap@yourcompany.com).
  2. Your email auto-forward rule sends it to the Mod AI address.
  3. Mod AI receives and classifies the attachments.
  4. Invoice attachments become invoice records and processing starts.
  5. Non-invoice attachments (cover letters, remittance advice, marketing) are classified but do not become invoices.

Manage forwarding addresses

You can have multiple addresses per entity for different inboxes or departments. Today, all forwarding-address management is handled by your Mod AI implementation manager, not through the in-app Settings UI. A self-serve Settings page is on the roadmap.

Add an address

  1. Email support@usemod.ai or ping your implementation manager directly.
  2. Tell them which entity needs the new address and what label or purpose it should serve (for example, Main AP Inbox, Construction Invoices).
  3. They provision the address and share it back with you. You can immediately start auto-forwarding to it.

Set up auto-forwarding in your email client

Once you have your Mod AI address, set up an auto-forward rule in your email system. Steps depend on the provider, but the pattern is:

  1. Open your email client's forwarding or rules settings.
  2. Create a rule that forwards incoming emails (or emails matching specific criteria) to the Mod AI address.
  3. Test by sending a sample invoice email and confirming it appears in Mod AI.
tip

Set up a dedicated AP inbox (ap@yourcompany.com) and auto-forward everything from it to Mod AI. All invoices process automatically with no manual step.

Edit an address

Email support@usemod.ai or your implementation manager with the address you want to change and the new label or purpose.

Delete an address

Email support@usemod.ai or your implementation manager with the address you want to remove. After deletion, emails sent to that address no longer process. Update or remove the matching auto-forward rule in your email client.
