Resolve a validation failure

A validation failure means one or more automated checks found invoice data that needs review.

Who can do this

You need access to edit the invoice and company:invoice:validate to submit it after correcting the exceptions.

Resolve the failure

  1. Select the 1 Exception chip, or the chip showing the current exception count, in the Document notices region under the invoice title.
  2. Select an exception in the popover to move to the affected field.
  3. Correct the field using the company-configured options shown on the invoice.
  4. Repeat until you have addressed every exception.
  5. Select Submit for Approval in the action bar.
  6. If a confirmation dialog opens, complete the company-configured checklist.
  7. If the dialog opened, select Submit for Approval in the dialog.

The validation-failure notice contract includes Dismiss. If that action appears on a notice surface, it dismisses the notice. It does not fill or correct the affected invoice fields.

What you should see

The exception count updates as the invoice data changes. When no blocking exceptions remain, Submit for Approval can send the invoice to its approval route.

If something goes wrong

  • If Submit for Approval says to resolve exceptions, open the exception chip again and check for another affected field.
  • If selecting an exception does not move to a field, read the full message in the popover. Some checks describe a document-level issue instead of one editable field.
  • If the same exception returns after a correction, ask an administrator to review the check under Settings, Configurations, Validation checks.
